What You Need to Know About the Indmar Pierburg Electric Fuel Pump
The Indmar Pierburg electric fuel pump is used on fuel-injected engines. It’s an electrical mechanical pump and has a motor which rotates a mechanical pumping device to pull the fuel in and then push the fuel out to the fuel system on the engine.
Indmar buys but also designs and manufactures component parts. Then they take those items and install them on a General Motors or a Ford engine to make it a complete marine engine package. Pierburg is the manufacturer of one of the fuel pumps they use and of this pump in particular.
Indmar, as the supplier, then sells the engine with this specific electric fuel pump to boat manufacturers, such as Malibu and Supra.
Indmar is a unique engine builder whose main focus has been on the towboat engine market over the last 45 years. They have and will build specialized engines for specific boat builders, whether it’s Mastercraft, Malibu or Supra. They’ve built their reputation on building ski and wakeboard boat engines.
Other than maintaining good, fresh fuel, using a stabilizing product in the fuel and a storage product in the offseason, there’s no other maintenance required on this pump. That’s the best way to extend the life and maintain the fuel pump.
